    All is now set for the first ever Community Sporting fiesta as the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria Delta State Chapter pioneer its kick off in the state capital. ALGON roving news crew who made some last minutes checks authoritatively revealed that from its facility inspection, the sporting complexes are all wearing new look. It is hoped that the state will play host to beehive sporting activities which are drawn from field and tracks like football, calisthenics, gymnastics, athletics, boxing, Tennis, Handball, Relay Race, Badminton, and other Sporting package during the festival holding between July 6th-7th 2021. Indeed, Asaba the state Capital, precisely at the main bowl of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, is already adorned with mascots and sports memorabilia. It will be recalled that the state has since demonstrated interests in sports development under Governor Ifeanyi Okowa knowing the importance of sporting activities in building social cohesion across the communities. ALGON Chairman in the State, Mr. Victor Ebonka who spoke with newsmen, thanked the state Governor for accepting to play host the august event, he said that arrangements for the sports festival being sponsored by the United Bank of Africa, UBA were in its kick off stage at the time of filing this report, he explained that the sports festival is aimed at catching talented persons young with such flagship event designed to dust up the country’s checkered history of poor commitment to sports and harness the country's sporting potential to produce better outcomes in sports. In his remark, his predecessor, the immediate past ALGON Chairman Delta and the current Chief of Staff to the ALGON National President Hon Itiako Ikpokpo commended such initiative which he said has all it take to blossom giving its bottom-up approach. Ikpokpo called for urged escalation of the fiesta which he said will promote development especially through the involvement of a long-term planning, and integrating grassroots communities all over the country. He said that the National President of ALGON Hon. Alabi Kolade David has since thrown his weight in Nigeria grassroots Sports development through the National Executive Council’s approval of some sports programmes that are currently on course in the local governments and councils. Hon Ikpokpo also observed that apart from sports being a mass-participation recreational activity, it has been widely used to promote good health and a general sense of well-being. He also commended Governor Okowa for his support and stated that it is a well-known the fact that sports is a professional enterprise that is anchored on excellence which in his view could provide employment for millions of Deltan’s and Nigerian young men and women living in the rural communities through what he described as talent hunt, hence another icing on the cake to promote peace, job creation especially at this period of unemployment and insecurity.
