The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, met behind closed doors on Monday evening in Enugu, Coal City State. The meeting was held at the State
Secretariat of ALGON in Enugu. ALGON’s National Executive Committee and board members, BoT, were chaired by the National President, the Hon. Alabi Kolade David. Association Enugu State President Honorable Solomon Onah, who received NEC/BoT members at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, told reporters that critical issues affecting local governments in Nigeria would be discussed at the meeting. The meeting, which comes at a time when the country is grappling with security challenges, is also expected to explore possible ways to manage security, particularly at the local government level. The meeting comes as local government workers, the National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, continues to push for full autonomy for the third level of government. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State is one of the governors who have pledged to implement the full autonomy of the local government, the judiciary as well as the legislative branches of government.
